/ What’s in my bag?

The list

Emile Young / My gear, minus traction, sleeping bag, lotion, and toothpaste.

Here’s a roundup of the non-clothing items which I consider for each trek. I never bring all of the gear listed below at the same time. Rather, based on the terrain, duration, weather, and accommodation, I pick out the gear I’ll need.

This weighs a total of 5.618 kg. For me, this is a pretty heavy base weight given that I’m not carrying a tent or food. There’s definitely some “nice to haves” which you don’t truly need, such as my heavy DSLR camera or a book. I’m a pretty tiny person, and I try to make the experience nicer myself and keep my base weight to less than 5 kg. This way, with snacks and clothes, I’ll only be carrying about 7 kg.

Conversions: 5.618 kg is 12.4 lbs, 5 kg is 11 lbs, and 7 kg is 15.4 lbs.
