What’s in my bag?

Need help packing? Let’s talk about what’s still in my bag after trekking for three months in Nepal.

Lama Sanu / On the way to Kagbeni, Annapurna Conservation Area.

The mountains are calling, and for better or worse, you’ve booked a trip to Nepal. Then comes the big question:

But what do I bring?

Packing for a place I’d never been — for a type of trip I’ve never done — was extremely nerve-wracking. Looking back, I had the right idea, but I still packed all kinds of unnecessary nice-to-haves. Now, after four treks in three months, I think I’ve finally figured out a fairly light system which works for me while on the trail in Nepal.

I discuss clothing systems in a separate post, so I’ll stick to the gear in my bag here.

In this post, I discuss the following topics:

  • Think like a trekker: what factors do I consider while selecting my gear?
  • How big should my bag be?
  • My packing list (including my sleep system, personal hygiene, hydration system, weather gear, and miscellaneous essentials)
  • Where can you find your gear?

Take this as a reference and adapt it for your own adventure!
